Overview: Nexium Control is an over-the-counter prescription drug containing the active ingredient esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate. It is used to relieve acid reflux, heartburn, and other stomach problems caused by the excessive acid produced by the stomach.

How It Works: Nexium Control works by binding to the acid-sensing subunit of the proton pumps in the gastric parietal cells (PCs). When these pumps get activated, excess stomach acid is passed out of the stomach. This causes the overactive PC to become less responsive to the effects of stomach acid.

Precautions:The use of this drug should be avoided in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate or any of the other ingredients listed. Patients with known heartburn or severe heartburn should use this medication with caution.

Side Effects:The most common side effects of this medication are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild and resolve on their own.

Directions

Adults 18 years, of age and over: Take 1 capsule daily for at least 7 days and up to 14 days.

Swallow the capsule whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush, chew or open the capsule. Not intended for immediate relief. It may take a few days to achieve maximum results.

Do not take for more than 14 days unless directed by a doctor.

USAGE ADVICE The bottle contains a sealed container with silica gel desiccant. Keep the bottle tightly closed to protect from moisture.
